Race Recorder Privacy Policy
Race Recorder is a mobile tracking application for Omni Regatta events. It lets a participant join an event by QR code or access key, register boat details, and send live position data while tracking is active.

Data We Collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:
- Event access data, such as a join key or QR code contents.
- Participant and boat information, such as boat name, sail number, captain name, and optional notes entered by the participant.
- Precise location data while tracking is active, including latitude, longitude, timestamp, speed, and course where available.
- Derived race data, such as track points, distance, speed statistics, start and finish timing, and replay data.
- Technical data needed to operate the service, such as tracker identifiers, app requests, IP address, device/network diagnostics, and server logs.
- Local app data saved on the device, such as previously joined events and participant profile details.
How We Use Data
We use the data to:
- Register a participant in an event.
- Send and display live tracking positions.
- Provide event replay, timing, and basic race statistics.
- Help organizers manage and review an event.
- Maintain service reliability, security, and troubleshooting.
Location and Background Tracking
Race Recorder uses precise location only when the participant starts tracking. Tracking may continue while the app is in the background so that a race track remains complete even when the screen is off or the participant uses another app. The participant can stop tracking in the app.
Camera Access
Camera access is used only to scan event join QR codes. Race Recorder does not record video or photos through the QR scanning feature.
Sharing
Event organizers and viewers may see live and replay information needed for the event, such as boat name, sail number, track, speed, course, and timing. We do not sell personal data and we do not use participant data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Retention
Event and tracking data may be retained as part of the event record, replay, results, safety review, and historical archive. Local device data can be removed by deleting saved events or uninstalling the app. To request removal or correction of server-side data, contact us.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect event and tracking data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to limit access to data to what is needed to operate the service.
Children
Race Recorder is intended for use in organized sailing events. If a minor participates, the event organizer or guardian is responsible for ensuring that use of the app is permitted.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The effective date at the top of the page shows when this policy was last updated.
