Tracking

My boat isn't on the map
  1. Check that the app says Tracking is active. If not, press Start tracking.
  2. Watch the sent counter. If it isn't growing but queued is, the phone has no internet. Positions go out by themselves once coverage is back.
  3. Check that you joined the right event and start group (Events tab).
  4. On the map, pick the right race on the bar above the map and switch to Live.
The track has gaps or the boat “jumps”

On an iPhone the cause is almost always location set to While Using the App instead of Always. On Android it's battery optimisation. See Location permissions. Also check that Precise Location is on: approximate location gives a position every few hundred metres.

A boat is standing still on the live map although it's sailing

The crew is out of coverage. The app keeps the positions on the phone and sends them when the network is back, so the replay track will be complete. Organizers can set an email alert for boats that stop reporting for longer than a chosen time.

The phone drains quickly

GPS and data use battery, and with weak coverage the phone uses more because it keeps searching for a network. Charge to 100%, bring a power bank, lower the screen brightness and keep the phone in the shade. A phone overheating in the sun throttles itself.

My boat is on the list twice

Two crew members joined separately, or someone joined again instead of picking the saved event on the Events tab. Only one phone should be tracking. The organizer can anonymise the extra entry. If it has to go completely, write to us.

The app asks me to rejoin

Access to an event expires after 30 days without uploaded positions, or when the organizer generated a new code. Rejoin with the same or the new code from the organizer.

Does the app have to stay open on screen?

No. Once tracking is on you can lock the phone. Just don't swipe the app away from the recent apps list. On an iPhone that stops tracking.

Joining

I scanned the QR code and a web page opened

The code was scanned with the phone's camera instead of Scan QR in Race Recorder. The page shows the Event key. Type it into Event key in the app and press Find event.

The app can't find the event from the code

The organizer may have replaced the code (Generate new code), or registration for the start group is switched off. Ask the organizer for the current code. Also check that the Server field says https://regatta.osgps.pl.

I entered the wrong sail number or boat name

Fix it on the Profile tab, press Save profile and then Update current event. The new details show on the map and in the replay.

I have two events on the same day

Join both. On the Events tab, pick the one you're sailing right now. Tracking is only ever active for one event.

Account and organization

I didn't get the confirmation email

Check spam. The link is valid for 24 hours. After that, sign in and click Send a new confirmation link.

I can't create another event, or a participant can't join

New organizations are limited to 3 events and 5 participants. Write to support@osgps.pl.

How do I add a second person to manage events?

For now we add organization members on request. Write to support@osgps.pl with the organization name and the new person's email. They need to create an account first.

The event doesn't show on the public site

Check on the event dashboard that the status isn't Draft, and that the Public switch is on in the Events list (in the form: Show on public home).

Can I mix hardware trackers and phones?

Yes. Phones join with the QR code, and trackers are assigned to boats by a system administrator on your request. We support Teltonika and Queclink GL320 MG devices. Write to us about configuration.

How much does it cost?

The service is currently free, within the limits above. Any paid services would require your consent (Terms of Service, § 3).

Data and privacy

Who can see my position?

If the event is public, anyone on the regatta site sees the boats' positions. The organizer can hide sailors' names, so that only boat names and sail numbers show. Positions are only collected while tracking is on.

How do I remove my data?

The organizer can anonymise your entry in the event, or you can write to support@osgps.pl. Organizers can delete their account themselves in the Profile. Details in the Privacy Policy.
